GETTING STARTED WITH MEGAPROXY® SERVICE

-1 -   What is Megaproxy® all about?

We offer two core services. Our popular FREE (BASIC) SERVICE is available to the entire Internet community free of charge. The free service has a number of restrictions and is regarded merely as a limited preview to the much more versatile and extensive subscription based ADVANCED WEB SSL VPN service, which is offered for a small monthly fee.

-2 -   How does your service work?

Megaproxy® provides an additional layer of privacy protection for Internet users. We recognize the potentially sensitive nature of your online activities and respect your right to discretion and confidentiality. Our powerful filtering servers perform a number of essential functions to protect your true Internet identity and overall Internet security. They safeguard your transit data against online censorship and eavesdropping.

The following message sequence illustrates the communication stream between a user and Megaproxy® during a typical session:

  • The client opens an HTTPS (SSL encrypted) connection to the URL address of www.megaproxy.com.
  • In the form provided, a user enters a destination URL address, i.e. www.yahoo.com
  • Once the form is submitted, the client opens a secure SSL connection to Megaproxy® servers. From this point, any exchange of information between a client browser and Megaproxy® is performed over a secure SSL tunnel.
  • Our servers fetch a web page on behalf of the user and perform a number of essential security functions, such as neutralizing dangerous web elements and protecting your Internet identity. After an extensive filtering process, the requested web page is forwarded back to a user over the secure SSL tunnel.

NOTE: The process noted above is as fast or faster than traditional web service. The competitive design advantages of the Megaproxy® service include but are not limited to:

  • Accessibile from anywhere, at anytime.
  • A server-side, web-enabled solution: There is no software to download or install on your computer.
  • A simple and centralized approach to your online privacy and Internet security concerns.

-3 -   What is required to access the Megaproxy® Web SSL VPN?

Just a computer with an Internet connection and a browser, such as Internet Explorer, Mozilla (Firefox, Thunderbird, Camino, etc), or Opera. Megaproxy® is extremely easy to use because the platform for our solution is simply the web browser and not a particular operating system. The Megaproxy® client-side toolbar interface was designed in accord with well-accepted web standards and technologies, like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, which means that it will run on Windows, Mac, or *nix based computers. In order to successfully enjoy the Megaproxy® Web SSL VPN service, your browser must meet certain basic system requirements. In technical terms, it must be HTML 4.01 compliant and support JavaScript 1.1 and Cascading Style Sheets Level 1 (CSS1). » READ MORE

-4 -   Do I need to install any software on my computer?

No! One of the biggest advantages of the Megaproxy® service is that it does not require any locally installed software. There is no need to reconfigure your browser settings or install third-party software on your computer. Simply point your browsers to our URL address, login, and start surfing. It's that simple.

-5 -   What computer hardware do I need to use the Megaproxy® Web SSL VPN?

All you need is a computer system that can run the required browsers (please refer to MEGAPROXY® SERVICE REQUIREMENTS); an Internet connection, minimum 28.8K modem (T1, Cable modem or DSL recommended); and a monitor resolution of at least 800 by 600 pixels (1024 by 768 resolution highly recommended).

-6 -   Can I use more than one computer?

Absolutely! You can use Megaproxy® on Linux, Macintosh, Solaris, Windows ... anything that is capable of running modern Internet browser software and has an Internet connection.

-7 -   Where do I start?

Before you access the service, open your browser's system preferences and make sure that SSL encryption and JavaScript are enabled and that the browser is set to accept Internet cookies, which are used for authentication and user preferences. To check whether your browser will support 128-bit SSL, click on the "Help" button to see the strongest supported cipher. Cipher strengths of 40-bit, 56-bit, or 128-bit (the strongest) indicate the browser supported encryption level. You can start surfing by entering the destination URL address in the form on our webpage and clicking the "surf!" button.
